Register ranks Mustangs #7 in OC

March 16, 2010

The Orange County Register’s 1st girls lacrosse rankings of the year are out, and the Mustangs take the 7th spot in the county. The Register’s Tim Burt writes …

7. Trabuco Hills: Scott Mann’s squad was 14-6 overall and finished 3-5 in a tie for third place in the Sea View League. Mann is hoping the team will make some big strides this year. “We return the majority of our goal scorers and hope to challenge the Sea View League and county elite this year,” Mann said. “El Toro is definitely the team to beat this year and Foothill is always strong.”

Leading the Mustangs is senior attack Morgan Chaney, who had 48 goals and 24 assists last year. Also back are senior midfielders Kayla Heaviside, who had 21 goals and five assists and Chelsea Martin, who had 18 goals and five assists. Other key players include junior midfielder Lizzie Moore, who had 29 goals, 13 assists and 158 controlled draws and senior defender Brittani Nagy, who had seven goals, three assists and 88 ground balls controlled.

Junior midfielder Taylor Nunez, senior attack Veigh Redwine, junior defenders Lauren Thews and Jess Tveit and sophomore midfielder Lexi Witkin also return. The Mustangs are also counting on freshman attack Hannah Redwine and junior goalie Jessie Vuozzo.
