April 25, 2010

From Trabuco Hills Athletic Dept.:

Former NFL player Cecil Martin (Philadelphia Eagles, Oakland Raiders and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers) will be coming to Trabuco Hills High School (Wednesday May 12th at 7:00pm in our Main Gym) to provide a motivational and educational talk to our student athletes and parents. The name of the presentation is Recruiting Simplified. The purpose of the presentation is to educate, motivate and inspire. At the heart of Mr. Martin’s talk are his stories, examples, energy, and enthusiasm about student athletes striving to be the best that they can in the classroom, in their sport, and in life.

Other topics include starting early, rules, regulations, NCAA Eligibility Center, how to market yourself and get your name out; importance of getting their counselors involved, working with their coaches, how to be realistic, and the multiple ways to acquire funding for college as a student athletes.

The program will last about an hour. Typically, Cecil speaks for 20-25 minutes. He will then take questions and sign autographed pictures from his NFL days. He says he will stay until the last person leaves and all questions have been answered. His talk is intended for all student athletes, male and female, from 7th graders to seniors in high school. Because his talk is about more than just college recruiting, it actually goes deeper than just athletics. The presentation is provided at no cost to the school.
