Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse Junior Varsity’s season opener was an away win against the Laguna Hills Hawks.
The Hawks scored first, but the Mustangs struck back and had a commanding 6-3 lead at the halfway point. The Mustangs fought hard and were winning contested ground balls with their tough and aggressive play. In the second half the Hawks surged back and brought the game to a 9-9 tie. Coach Leong’s crucial timeout rallied the team and they scored two fast goals to win their opening game of the 2013 season with a stellar 11-9 road victory.
The Mustangs had great performances by several players that was highlighted by a swarming defense and key saves by goalie Sam Ransom. Offensively the Mustangs shooting was on point. Irene Petruzzi led the team with 6 goals, 4 coming off critical penalties. The other goal scorers were Caroline Rabourn (2), Shannon Smith (2) and Jacquie Cronkrite (1).
