JV 12, San Clemente 1
The Trabuco Hills Girls JV Lacrosse team hosted the San Clemente Tritons in what turned out to be a decisive Mustang victory.
The Mustangs started fast with an Irene Petruzzi goal off of a free position, after which the game slowed down with neither team capitalizing on their opportunities. The Tritons came back and scored to tie the game at 1-1 with around 20 minutes left in the half. From that point on the Mustangs began to find their groove. Trabuco’s passing and catching showed improvement and Sam Ransom slowly took over with a dominate goaltending performance. A breakaway goal by Irene Petruzzi followed by 2 goals from Shannon Smith ended the first half. The Mustangs were leading 4-1.
The second half began in a flash as Shannon Smith won the draw and scored in less than 18 seconds in a breakaway one-on-one goal. The defense began to clamp down on the Tritons and Sam continued saving shot after shot. As the game wound down the Mustangs ran away with the contest. The Mustangs showed excellent improvement with several key pass and nifty goals. Bailee Griffin scored her first goal off of a Caroline Rabourn downfield pass; and Alyssa Ortega scored a goal after some tough inside moves in the heart of the Triton defense. The final score had the Mustangs winning 12-1.
Top performers of the night were Shannon Smith with 4 goals and Sam Ransom with 11 saves, 6 coming off of free positions. The following Mustangs scored goals: Irene Petruzzi (3), Caroline Rabourn (2), Alyssa Ortega (1), Bailee Griffin (1) and Lauren Liberman (1).
