Newport Harbor 9, JV 6

March 14, 2014

In a back-and-forth game Thursday afternoon at Newport Harbor High School, Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse JV was unable to hold off Newport Harbor, falling 9-6.

Though the home team seemed to play with the lead for a majority of the match-up, the determination by the Trabuco team to make a comeback in the game on numerous occasions was on full display. Leading the way was senior Irene Petruzzi, who finished with a team-high two goals in the game. Starters Shannon Smith and Kaylyn Voytilla each had a goal in the first half as well. Trabuco dominated the draw control winning 9 out of 10 and goalie Erin Beall saved 5 shots on goal, leaving the half time score at 5 to 4, Newport Harbor.

The second half saw Newport Harbor come out strong with 2 quick goals. With the Trabuco team down 7 to 4, the JV Mustangs had a hard time remaining in possession with a total of 11 turnovers in the second half — and losing 5 out of the 7 draws. Defense was on full attack against the quick Newport midfielders. Shaianne Symonette and Payton Tate stood out with strong runs and goalie Beall saved an impressive 7 shots.

Trabuco finished the half with 2 additional goals from Ashely Bell and Lauren Liberman. Newport Harbor put the game away with a 9-6 victory.
