Trabuco Hills Girls JV outscored cross town rival Mission Viejo 7-1 in the first half en route to a 13-3 victory Tuesday evening at Mission Viejo. The victory improves their season record 5-1.

The first half belonged to the Mustangs as their opposition failing to find the back of the net until under a minute remained on the scoreboard. The main reason for the Diablos’ lack of scoring in the opening half was due to the stellar play of sophomore goalkeeper Erin Bealle, who made several point-blank saves. She finished the first half with six saves and had 9 total in the game. Shannon Smith (3 goals) and Jacquie Cronkrite (2 goals) lead the scoring in the first with additions from Irene Petruzzi and Jordan Cisowski netting one apiece.

Trabuco Hills wasted little time building on its lead in the second half as Kody Shelton made an impressive coast-to-coast run to goal. Mission Viejo put two goals through, but that would be as close as they would get with the Mustangs pulling away in the end with four goals before the end of the contest. Cronkrite and Smith tied for a game-high four draws each. Not a team to get comfortable with their lead, the Mustangs put away two more goals to wrap up the half from Jackie Phillips and Smith, whose final goal of the night was made with just 58 seconds left on the clock.

Trabuco outshot Misison Viejo 18-11, and won 11 of 17 draws.

Goal scorers: Smith (6), Cronkrite (3), Petruzzi (1), Cisowski (1), Shelton (1) and Philips (1).

Next: Sticks and Stones JV Tournament at Trabuco Hills High School, March 28 and 29
