JV 8, El Toro 6

April 9, 2014

The Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse JV lacrosse jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on Tuesday and defeated visiting El Toro 8-6 to capture their 10th win of the season.

Five different Mustangs would score for Trabuco en route to their win, making all eight goals of the night in the first half of the contest.

Sophomore midfielder Shannon Smith opened the scoring just 30 seconds into the game on a winning draw run straight to goal. Within the next three minutes, junior Jacquie Cronkrite would score twice past the Chargers defense adding to the Mustangs lead.

Trabuco’s defense played a good first half, shutting down almost all potential shots on goal. El Toro found the net twice in the first half; scoring once off a Trabuco turnover and the second off a quick draw win. With assistance from Kody Shelton, Gabi Bitting and Shaianne Symonette, the Mustangs held the Chargers to four shots on goal in the first half. Trabuco finished the half with five unanswered goals in the last 12 minutes of play. First-half scorers were Smith (2), Cronkrite (2), Irene Petruzzi (1), Karli Franks (1) and Kaylyn Voytilla (2).

El Toro rallied in the second half, hitting the back of the net with four goals out of seven shots allowed. The Trabuco girls were shut out of the second half, finding the chance at scoring more than difficult.

First-time goal keeper Ashley Bell stepped in the net as a replacement for now-Varsity goalie Erin Beall Bell had five saves for the night. Mustangs played the last four minutes with intensity, double teaming the opponent with a tight defense. A late save by Bell with 50 seconds on the clock kept El Toro from scoring and secured Trabuco’s win.

Trabuco Hills took a total of 9 shots on goal, owned 11 of the 13 draw controls, and controlled 10 of the 15 ground balls.

Next: Trabuco Hills (10-2) hosts Mission Viejo, Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
