JV 13, Mission Viejo 4

April 11, 2014

Junior Kaylyn Voytilla scored a game high six goals, and Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse JV never trailed in a 13-4 home victory under the lights Thursday night. The win is the fourth in a row for the Mustangs, who improved to 11-2.

Trabuco scored on its first possession, with Shannon Smith putting it in the back of the net with an assist from Gabi Bitting in the opening 30 seconds of the game. Junior Lauren Liberman added one for the Mustangs at 20:12 before the Diablos got their first score on a free-position chance making it 3-1 Trabuco. Jacquie Cronkrite, in as goalie for the first half, managed two saves for the Mustangs.

The next two scores would be Trabuco’s, both by Voytilla to help the Mustangs open a 5-1 advantage. Mission stopped the stretch with a goal at 5:56, but four more unanswered goals from Voytilla (2) and Irene Petruzzi (2) gave Trabuco a 9-2 lead at halftime. The Mustangs offense clearly dominated; they tripled up the Diablos in shots (15-4) and groundballs (14-2) for the half.

The second half opened with the ball exchanges hands multiple times. Voytilla finally put the Mustangs on the scoreboard for the half with two back-to-back goals 10 minutes into the half. Smith and Cronkrite added one goal each. Mission had two goals on free-position opportunities however, they were not able to add to that momentum and neither team scored in the final five-plus minutes. Bell, in as goalie for the second half, had three saves. Trabuco locked in the win with a solid defense in the last five minutes for the 13-4 final.

Trabuco Hills took a total of 22 shots on goal, owned 13 of the 15 draw controls, and controlled 27 of the 29 ground balls.

Next: After Spring Break, Trabuco Hills travels to San Clemente, April 22 at 7:00 p.m.
