JV 10, San Clemente 6
With the sun setting on the beach community of San Clemente Tuesday evening, Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse JV battled the San Clemente Tritons to earn a hard-fought 10-6 victory. The win pushed the Mustangs’ overall record to 13-2 this season and includes a 6-0 mark vs. South Coast League schools.
Kaylyn Voytilla opened the scoring in the first half with a goal during the first possession with less than a minute into the game. Trabuco Hills controlled the tempo of the game throughout, dictating the play to its favor. That methodical style helped the team take an early lead and never trail on the evening, playing with the lead the entire 50 minutes.
San Clemente’s team had a strong goalie, limiting the Mustang’s to 10 goals out of 16 shots in the game, split evenly between the first and second half. Shannon Smith passed a long, beautiful half field ball to Cronkrite who nailed it into the back of the net before the buzzer, leaving the half time score at 7-5 Mustangs.
The Trabuco girls came out ready to play hard in the second half with an amazing show at the defensive end of the field, keeping the Tritons to 4 attempts and only one goal for the entire half. The girls double- and triple-teamed the San Clemente offense resulting in an almost impenetrable defense. Notable defenders included Kody Shelton, Gabi Bitting and Shaianne Symonette.
Smith, Kronkrite and Voytilla all had one goal a piece before closing out the game with a final score of 10-6.
