JV 7, Tesoro 4

April 30, 2014

Trabuco Hills Girls JV took on Tesoro on Tuesday at Tesoro High School hoping to take home the victory for a second time.

The first half opened with Tesoro owning the first draw control and taking it to the net. Fortunately, a solid defensive showing from the Mustangs prevented the opening goal. At the 17 minute mark, Trabuco’s Jacquie Cronkrite made a run to goal and was able to get the first of a season high five goals to put the Mustangs on the scoreboard.

Tesoro’s offense played hard, taking eight shots on goal in the half. Goalie Ashley Bell had an impressive six saves. Cronkrite made her second goal before half, leaving the score tied 2-2.

The Mustangs started the second half off quick and strong with a goal from Kaylyn Voytilla within the first 40 seconds of the half and Irene Petruzzi followed up, making it into the back of the net less than three minutes later moving the score 4-2 Trabuco.

The Mustangs extended the lead to 6-2 before the Titans made a couple of great runs, adding two goals in the last 4 minutes. But the Mustang defense stepped up and blocked any additional movement of the ball. Cronkrite put the final stamp on the game with her fifth goal just eight seconds before the buzzer to seal at 7-4 win. The Mustangs had beaten Tesoro, 7-5, earlier in the month.

Trabuco Hills took a total of 16 shots on goal, owned 7 of the 13 draw controls, and controlled 22 of the 26 ground balls. Goal scorers: Cronkrite (5), Voytilla (1) and Petruzzi (1). Goalie Bell had 10 saves.

Next: Trabuco Hills (13-2) looks to make a perfect sweep of South Coast League schools when it travels to El Toro, May 1 at 7:00 p.m.
