Varsity 18, Capo Valley 5
Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse Varsity returned to their winning ways in a dominating fashion, an 18-5 South Coast League win at Capo Valley.
Having suffered two tough losses in recent weeks, it was sink or swim for Varsity if they wanted to compete for a league title. And did they ever respond on Tuesday.
But when the opening draw was taken, the Mustangs immediately went back on their heels and allowed Capo to score a couple of goals but had answers for them. Coach Leong had seen enough dropped balls and missed passes to know it was time to call a time out. Whatever was said in that time out, the girls responded and they never looked back, putting away six unanswered goals to lead 10-4 at halftime.
The Mustangs being able to put losses behind and move forward meant the second half was more of the same. Trabuco’s defense — led by Hannah Moller, Kody Shelton and Audie Schutler — took Capo out of their rhythm allowing goalie Ashley Bell a break, only allowing one goal after the break. Bell finished the game with six saves.
Trabuco had 19 draw controls on the night, a great way to control the game. Kendall Derbyshire lead the team with six draw controls. Hennessey Evans (3), Sierra Knudsen (2), Hannah Moller (2), Gabi Bitting (1), Juliet Mooney (1), Ashley Murillo (1), Audie Schutler (1), Shelton (1) and Shannon Smith (1) also contributed draw controls.
Goal scorers: Evans(8), Derbyshire(3), Mooney(3), Knudsen(2), Schutler(1), Moller(1).
Record: 9-2, 3-1 South Coast League
Next game: San Clemente at Trabuco, Friday
