Varsity 14, San Clemente 7
Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse Varsity’s started the second half of South Coast League play with a home win over San Clemente, 14-7, on Friday night.
Trabuco Hills was able to keep their cool in a heated game against San Clemente that netted their opponent three yellow cards on the night. Despite the over aggressive play, the Mustang’s had an 8-4 lead at halftime and never looked back.
At the expense of sounding like a broken record, Varsity was again able to dominate draw control with 16 on the night. Win the ball, control the game. Five different girls had draw controls with Shannon Smith grabbing six of them on the night. The art of self-drawing is tough to do and Smith had it down on this night.
With only two weeks left in the season the Lady Mustangs seem to be coming into a rhythm that most teams are going to have a problem playing against. With so many talented midfielders and attack players, the ball will be coming from any direction at the goal and that is a nightmare for even the best of goalies in this league.
Ashley Bell had 11 saves on the night. Keeping that number low is indicative of the hard work the defense did protection her.
Goal scorers: Kendall Derbyshire (4), Juliet Mooney (4), Hennessey Evans (3), Ashley Murillo (2) and Hannah Moller (1).
Record: 10-2, 4-1 South Coast League
Next game: at Aliso Niguel, Tuesday. Aliso has always been tough to beat at home and Coach Dave Elkins will have his Wolverine team ready to avenge the loss earlier this season at Trabuco.
