Tesoro 12, Varsity 6

April 27, 2016

Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse Varsity saw its hopes for a share of a South Coast League title disappear with a 12-6 loss at Tesoro on Tuesday night.

The Mustangs went into Tuesday’s game looking for redemption after Tesoro handed them their only home loss of the season a month ago. Going into halftime, Trabuco lead 5-3 and just needed to finish the second half strong and control the ball. The Mustangs scored first after the break, but Tesoro had other plans and scored the next eight unanswered goals.

Draw control, a Mustang strength this season, hurt Trabuco in Tuesday’s as Tesoro won all but three draw controls on the night.

Ashley Bell had three saves in the first half but faced a debilitating sun glare in the second half. Trying to find a yellow ball at speed in the sun is not an easy task for even one of the best in the league.

Mustang goal scorers: Hennessey Evans and Juliet Mooney both getting two, Kendall Derbyshire and Shannon Smith each had one.

With the win, Tesoro clinches the league title by going undefeated on the season. Trabuco will finish in second place with a win over Capo Valley on Thursday, as the Mustangs also prepare for the playoffs next week.

Record: 12-3, 5-2 South Coast League

Next Game: Thursday, Capo Valley at home
