Newport Harbor 11, Varsity 10
A lacrosse match can’t be much closer than the Trabuco Hills Varsity played at 5th-ranked Newport Harbor. The biggest lead either team had was 2 goals — and the game was tied with 1 minute left. In the end, the Mustangs fell, 11-10.
The first half ended, 5-4, withe Sailors ahead. Trabuco Hills got goals from Lizzie Moore, Hannah Redwine, Alex Miller and Jessie Papageorge’s — but Newport Harbor grabbed the lead with 40 seconds left.
After intermission, Trabuco Hills took its only lead of the night — 6-5 — on two quick Papageorge’s scores. Then the Sailors battled back, outscoring Trabuco Hills 4-1 (Moore) in a raly that left Newport harbor ahaead, 9-7 with five minues left. Sohee Ki and Papageorge’s then scored to tie the match, Newport Harbor responsed with their one score before Justine Tobias’s free position shot made it 10-10 with 60 second left. But 19 seconds later, teh sailors got the game winner.
Notes: Lauren Thews picked up eight ground balls, third best total in the program’s history! Alyssa Ransom had eight saves in goal.
