Trabuco Hills girls lacrosse team is heading into the U.S. Lacrosse Division 1 South playoffs Tuesday with some momentum.
The Mustangs, led by first-year coach Scott Leong, wrapped up the Sea View League title on Friday with a 9-7 victory over Aliso Niguel. The Mustangs fell behind, 6-0 at halftime. With 18:30 left in the second half, Lizzie Moore of Trabuco Hills scored the team’s first goal but it was immediately countered by Aliso Niguel with a quick goal off the draw.
But team statistician Tim Redwine said Trabuco Hills took control after that, led by the strong defense of Lauren Thews. Trabuco Hills scored six unanswered goals to tie the game with seven minutes left. Goals were scored by Jessie Papageorges (3), Lizzie Moore, Taylor Nunez and Sohee Ki). The go-ahead goal scored by Hannah Redwine gave Trabuco its first lead of the game with five minutes remaining. Taylor Nunez added another goal to help Trabuco Hills clinch its first league title.
