JV 7, Esperanza 4
Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse’s JV took 5th place at the 5th annual Surf City Invitational in Huntington Beach with a 7-4 win over Esperanza.
The game started off with Esperanza getting a goal within the first minute. Mustang Becca Ransom replied with a goal five minutes later to tie the score, Melanie Leong’s pass to Megan McIntyre created a goal for a 2-1 lead; McIntyre then fed Ransom for a 3-1 advantage with 16 minutes left in the first half. Esperanza got one back, but Jackie Huse found McIntyre in front of the goal with 5 minutes to go in the first half. In the last minute, Esperana narrowed the Mustang edge to 4-3 at halftime.
Just after the break, the Mustangs started off strong with a pass from Hope Dodd to Melanie Leong for a goal. Esperanza countered with a score at 17 minutes left, to narrow Trabuco Hills’s edge to 5-4. But Dodd scored, followed by McIntyre’s third of the day, to ice the 7-4 win.
Notes: Mustang JV won 17 games this spring; the previous two JV teams won a total of 19! … Mustangs fired 26 shots at Esperanza. .. Mustang defense was strong and goalie Cyrena Malkowski only had to fend off 9 shots on goal. The 2010 Mustangs JV beat Esperanza, 15-3, to end last season at Surf City.
