Varsity 18, El Dorado 17
Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse Varsity survived at El Dorado, taking an 18-17 non-league thriller.
The Mustangs started out like it would be an easy late afternoon. Within 16 minutes, Trabuco had a 7-3 lead in three goals from Hannah Redwine, two from Jessie Papageorge’s and one each from Megan McIntyre and Alyssa Ransom. By halftime, the Mustangs had stretched it to 11-5 with Redwine adding two more, Papageorge’s another and Melanie Leong scoring as well.
Then things got interesting. El Dorado scored 5 of the next 6 goals (Justine Tobias for Trabuco) — and it was only a 12-10 Trabuco advantage. Redwine scored again — but El Dorado scored three straight — and it was tied at 13 with 8 minutes left.
Tobias scored two straight to give the Mustangs a 2-goal lead, but El Dorado countered with three of their own. It was 16-15, El Dorado, with just 4 minutes left. Melanie Leong scored; then Tobias again to get Trabuco a lead once more. Papageorge’s iced it with a free position shot. El Dorado could only score one more before the final horn.
Notes: With 35 goals, this was the highest-scoring game Trabuco has ever played. Previous high was 30 goals (21-9 defeat of San Juan Hills, 2011) … Papageorge’s had five assists; Rachel Lansner had two. … Tobias had four ground ball pickups; Papgeorge’s and Loeng, three … Redwine had seven draw controls. … Niki Neeley and Jackie Huse had three takeaways; Cyrena Malkowski had eight saves.
Record: 10-6, 3-3 Sea View.
