JV 12, Newport Harbor 2

March 12, 2013

The Trabuco Hills Girls JV Lacrosse team hosted Newport Harbor Tuesday in a fast-paced contest.

The Mustangs jumped out first, scoring in a little over two minutes, with a quick pass across the middle from Lauren Liberman to Irene Petruzzi for the goal.  Newport Harbor scored quickly, but it would prove to be only the first of their two goals all night.  The Mustang defense, led by team captains, Shelby Siano and Caroline Rabourn, helped silence Newport Harbor with an aggressive style of play that is becoming the team’s trademark.  By halftime the score was 6-1 and the Mustangs were showing a marked improvement on their midfield passing.  In the second half the Mustangs remained consistent and finished the game strong winning 12-2.

Improved passing, dominant midfield play and a shutdown defense were the keys to the Mustang win.  The increase of assists are a testament of a growing passing attack.   Irene Petruzzi led the team in goals (3), followed by Jacquie Conkrite (2), Ashly Bradshaw (2), Hannah Moller (1), Shannon Smith (1), Caroline Rabourn (1) and Kaylyn Voytilla (1).

Record: 2-0

Next game: At Tesoro, Wednesday.
