JV 10, San Clemente 6

The Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse JV improved to 3-1 on the season with a 9-6 win Wednesday night over the visiting San Clemente Tritons.

Trabuco’s Mustangs had 20 shots on goal, scooped an impressive 24 ground balls and saved 8 shots on goal to walk away with the victory.

Trabuco built a 4-2 lead in the first half thanks to goals by attackers Irene Petruzzi, Jacquie Cronkrite, Lauren Liberman as well as midfielder Kody Shelton. The Mustangs had an impressive 10 shots on goal and were able to keep the turnovers down to a two, an improvement over last week. While only gaining 3 of the seven draw controls in the first half, Trabuco still managed to keep the Tritons from maintaining control of the ball with pressure from great defensive play.

The second half started off with two unanswered goals by San Clemente, but Trabuco was quick to turn the tables, capitalizing on 6 out of 10 shots on goal. Shannon Smith had an impressive half after coming back in from an injury, scoring a game high 3 goals. Jacquie Cronkrite scored her second goal of the game and Kaylyn Voytilla scored on the Tritans. The last 7 minutes of the half saw the Mustangs dominating the ball, winning the draw controls and keeping the Tritans from making attempts on goal. Defender Carly Franks added an insurance goal with 10 seconds left on the clock to finish out the game.
