JV 11, Laguna Hills 2

March 21, 2014

With three wins in the season’s first  four games under their belts, the Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse JV team was at their confident best in a visit to the Lady Hawks of Laguna Hills.

Laguna Hills HS LogoKaylyn Voytilla wasted no time and within 30 seconds of the starting whistle, she found the back of the net with an unassisted goal. The Mustangs rallied early and dominated the game with three more quick goals: Karli Franks off a free position; the always dependable Jacquie Cronkrite with a solo run; and again Voytilla — to give the Mustangs a commanding 4-0 lead.

The Hawks finally found the back of the net 8 minutes into the first half, a goal that spurred the Mustangs to respond with two more goals: Team captains Irene Petruzzi and Cronkrite each with an unassisted goal. The mighty Mustangs dictated play throughout the first half thanks to four draw controls by Voytilla plus eleven ground balls retrieved (Voytilla and Sydney Rauch leading the pack with two apiece.) Scoreboard at the half was 6-1 Mustangs.

The second half continued with a strong Mustang offense and defense. There was heavy stick checking and turnovers on both teams as the ball moved laterally up and down the field. The Hawks soldiered through the Mustang defense once more to score their final goal of the evening, but Mustang Lauren Liberman answered back quickly. The unrelenting Mustangs added to their lead with Voytilla scoring three more goals and Cronkrite scoring once more for good measure.

Voytilla was a force to be reckoned with, she retrieved four ground balls and three draw controls in the second half keeping the ball predominately in the sticks of the Mustangs. A major contributor in tonight’s win was goal tender Erin Beall who stood tall with a total of 14 saves. The JV team’s win makes them 4-1 on the season.

Goal scorers for the game were: Voytilla (5), Cronkrite (3), Franks (1), Petruzzi (1), Liberman (1).

Next game: Tuesday at Mission Viejo at 7 PM.
