JV 12, Esperanza 6
Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse Junior Varsity used a strong second half to beat Esperanza, 12-6, at Trabuco Stadium.
The Mustang JV girls are in what can be considered a “rebuilding” year with most of the team being brand new, having never before played lacrosse. However, don’t tell that to the veterans on the team. After Saturday’s scrimmage loss to Los Alamitos, Coach Melanie Page leaned on the veterans and they responded in a big way.
Returners Sarah Daneshmand, Zoe Cerutti, Jordan Cisowski, Meagan Raft and Sherry Hsu took control of the game from the beginning, getting Trabuco on the scoreboard early. Esperanza didn’t back down, keeping the score close in the first half at 5-4. Goalie Hima Kathi had three saves in the first half. Diana Cendejas, who manned the goal for the second half, also recorded three saves on the night while only allowing two goals.
Trabuco enjoyed balanced scoring, with seven different goal scorers on the night. Eight of the twelve goals came off free position shots from shooting space fouls.
Coach Page rotated players all night throughout the game to give the girls a chance to play other positions on the field. As the season moves forward, girls will start to fall into a more permanent position on the field that they feel comfortable with and can help the team.
Record: 1-0
Next game: Thursday at El Dorado.
