Varsity 11, Capo Valley 10 (OT)

April 29, 2016

Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse secured second place in the South Coast League by beating Capo Valley in an overtime thriller, 11-10, on Thursday night at Trabuco Stadium.

Capo Valley came to the Mustangs’ home turf looking for some redemption after a blowout loss by Trabuco earlier in the season. And after the Mustangs scored first, Capo matched Trabuco goal for goal until halftime with the two teams tied at 4-4.

After the break, Trabuco built a two-goal lead late in the second half but Capo was able to answer with two goals of their own, the last coming with only 30 seconds left in the game. Off to overtime the game went where it wasn’t until the final seconds of the overtime period that Hennessey Evans was able to score on a free position shot to give Trabuco the win.

This was a heck of a game for all in attendance, every parent was on the edge of their seat as this was like a ping pong match going back and forth with amazing goalkeeping on both ends of the field.  Mustang Ashley Bell had 15 saves on the night, 12 of them coming in the first half alone.

Trabuco secured 19 out of the 24 draw controls with Kendall Derbyshire and Shannon Smith each getting five; Evans and Juliet Mooney had two; and Sierra Knudsen, Hannah Moller, Ashley Murrilo, Lauren Reniker, and Kody Shelton all contributing with one a piece.

The Mustangs now prepares for Senior Night on Friday where we will wish our seniors farewell and thank them for their contributions to the program. They will be missed, but we will get to see them play a few more times with playoffs starting next week.

Record: 13-3, 6-2 South Coast League

Next Game: Friday, San Juan Hills at home (Senior Night)
