Varsity 21, San Juan Hills 10
Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse Varsity closed out the regular season with a dominating performance on Friday, defeating San Juan Hills on Senior Night by 21-10.
San Juan Hills came into Trabuco’s stadium looking to be the spoilers of the Senior Night festivities. That did not happen as the Mustangs had other ideas. Needing to keep the playoff ranking high, Coach Scott Leong knew that a win was a must but also that a goal differential would play an important part as well.
Juliet Mooney put away the opening goal to start the game and was the leading scorer on the night with six goals. Additional goal scorers: Hennessy Evans (5), Ashley Murillo (4), Shannon Smith (3), Kendall Derbyshire (2) and Sierra Knudsen (1). Derbyshire finished the night with four assists.
A stellar defensive night led by Kody Shelton, Hannah Moller, Erin Beal, Audie Schutler, Lauren Reniker and the middies that came back helped protect their goalie Ashley Bell all night. Bell finished with 12 saves.
Next up, the playoffs. Varsity will face Santa Margarita, not an easy opponent who will be playing with the memory of their season loss to the Mustangs.
Record: 14-3, 6-2 South Coast League
Next Game: Playoffs, Tuesday vs. San Margarita at El Toro High School
