Varsity clinches at least league co-champs by win at Laguna Hills

April 23, 2018

Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse on Monday secured at least a co-championship of the South Coast League with a 21-5 away win vs. Laguna Hills.

The Mustangs — defending South Coast champs — didn’t start well, falling quickly behind 3-0. But Trabuco Hills regrouped, scoring the next 15 goals of the half to gain a comfortable 15-3 lead at the break that was never challenged by Laguna Hills after intermission.

Trabuco Hills, now 6-1 in league play, was lead by seven goals and two assists from Juliet Mooney and six goals and an assist from Hennessy Evans. Ieneke Jimenez had three goals and three assists; Morgan Yee added two goals and two assists; and Kristen Rosenberg, Avery Tobiassen and Katie Marks each added a score.

Trabuco Hills (9-5) can win the South Coast title outright with a win Thursday in a rematch against Laguna Hills (5-7, 0-6 South Coast). But the Mustangs have a big game before that: a Tuesday matchup at against defending Orange County champ Mater Dei.

Trabuco Hills, headed for its 12th playoff appearance in its program’s 12-year history, also won league titles in 2011, 2014 and 2017.
