Varsity 8, Redondo 6

It looked like Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse Varsity was going to have an easy trip to the finals of the Rose Bowl Jamboree’s top Gold Bracket in Pasadena.

Then Redondo Union made a game of it.

The Mustangs came out strong late in the first half. Goals by Jesse Papageorge’s and Alyssa Ransom had teh game knotted at 2-2. Then three straight scores — Lexi Witkin (from Jackie Huse);  Papageorge’s (from Becca Ranson); and Witkin from Papageorge’s — made it 5-2 at half.

Then Rachel Lansner scored just after the break, and it was a 4-goal Mustang lead.

Redondo scored three straight — making it 6-5 before goals from Hope Dodd and Witkin — from Hannah Redwine — sealed the game and a trip to the Gold Bracket’s finals.

Notes: Trabuco had previously beat Redondo at Rose Bowl in 2007 and a memorable come-from-behind win in the rain in 2010 … Lansner picked up three ground balls; Redwine, two … Cyrena Malkowski had six saves.
