In what’s been a common theme for Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse Varsity this spring, another 1-goal loss: this time, 12-11, to Aliso Niguel in the Sea View League finale.

The Mustangs came out strong, building a 6-3 lead midway through the first half with three goals from Jessie Papageorge’s, and one each from Rachel Lansner, Lexi Witkin and Hannah Redwine. Aliso came back with three of their own to tie the match. And before halftime, the teams traded goals — Papageorge’s for Trabuco — and it was a 7-7 tie.

Goals from Witkin and Melanie Leong right after the break gave Trabuco a 9-7 lead. Aliso then scored 2 of their own. Papageorge’s and Leong then scored at it was 11-9, Trabuco, with 15 minutes left. It stayed that way until 8 minutes were left, when Aliso scored. With 6:46 left, Aliso tied the game for the 7th time.

Aliso then scored with two minutes left — for their only, and decisive, lead of the night.

Notes: Aliso Niguel and Capo Valley shared the Sea View League crown with 7-1 records. Trabuco lost 4 games to those teams by a total of 6 goals. Mustangs tied for 3rd with Laguna Hills. … On this night, Redwine had 3 ground balls … Papageorge’s had 4 draw controls, Redwine 3 … Papageorge’s had 3 takeaways, Redwine and Cyrena Malkowski, 2 … Malkowski had 5 saves.
