Redondo Union 6, JV 4 (S&S)
In the late afternoon on Saturday, Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse JV took to the stadium field to face the very capable Redondo Union Sea Hawks in search of their first Sticks & Stones championship.
Sophomore midfielder Shannon Smith scored the first goal for the Mustangs. Trabuco managed to win three out of the seven draws of the half. Freshman midfielder Gabi Bitting scored her first goal of the season, with an assist from Smith. With 10 seconds on the clock, Smith won the draw and made an impressive run to goal, powering the ball into the net with 2 seconds to spare. The score at the half of the Blue Division title game was a nail biting, 3-3.
The second half was dominated by the Sea Hawks as they managed to keep control of the ball with skilled passing and enviable team work. The Mustangs were also tagged with multiple fouls and three yellow cards in the game, giving the opponents plenty of open shots on goal. Trabuco only managed to get two draws in the half from Smith and Voytilla. Redondo ran the majority of the half with three consecutive goals. Voytilla scored with less than four minutes left in the game but it wasn’t enough to beat the Sea Hawks as they took the game and the division with a 6-4 win.
The Trabuco Hills Girls JV Lacrosse finished the weekend with a second place win in the division, improving their ranking from third last year. The only other time that Trabuco Hills made it to a Sticks & Stones final was 2011, when the Mustangs lost to Foothill.
All-tournament team medals were awarded to midfielder Smith and goalie Beall.
