Varsity 16, San Clemente 8
Trabuco Hills Girls Lacrosse Varsity remains undefeated after beating San Clemente, 16-8, Thursday night on the road in their first South Coast League game.
The Mustangs headed south down the 5 freeway last night to face San Clemente, a team with many players they’d seen in off-season club play. The Tritons looked to be a different team last night, putting the Mustangs to the test early and keeping the game close.
Ashley Bell in goal continued her great season with 14 saves on the night allowing the Mustangs to open the lead and not look back.
The Mustangs had 15 fouls in the first half and that helped San Clemente stay in the game. Going into the half, the score was 10-4 Mustangs.
Trabuco was able to settle down and avoid the contact with San Clemente in the second half, cutting the fouls in half. In turn, San Clemente committed 14 fouls in the second half.
Turnovers almost cost the Mustangs this game, giving up nine of them in the second half. That gave San Clemente a small sign of hope that they could come back. It wasn’t to be when the final buzzer rang.
Juliet Mooney was the leading scorer with eight goals, Hennessey Evans had five goals with Kendall Derbyshire, Hannah Moller, and Ashley Murillo finishing with one each.
Record: 6-0, 1-0 South Coast League
Next game: Aliso Niguel at Trabuco on Tuesday
